Much of the fruit that creates this wine is sourced from ancient Grenache planted on our Bethany property over a century ago. These gnarly old vines produce beautifully concentrated fruit which we craft into our unique and renowned style of Grenache.
The 2012 vintage conditions were ideal in the Barossa Valley. High sub-soil moisture levels combined with a long mild summer allowed the Grenache to ripen evenly. The resultant wine is one of balance, clarity and is exceptionally varietal.
Initial fermentation followed with 50% of the stems added back to the crushed fruit. Maturation took place in a combination of neutral oak Foudre and 20% new Burgundian barrels.
This wine is vivid in colour with prominent aromatics of raspberries and delicate lavender. A spicy, fennel tinged mid palate is supported by tactful oak integration. Primary spicy fruit flavours are rapidly followed by crisp and deliberate tannins that find true harmony in context with food.
