Turkey Flat has more than 25 years experience in making Grenache. This older variety for South Australia has a natural home in the Barossa, although respect for the variety as a maker of fine wine has only recently been achieved. It has been an important part of the Turkey Flat range since 1992.

Mark Bulman has made Grenache his signature varietal after taking over full control of winemaking at Turkey Flat in 2010. Under his direction this remains respectful to our past tradition of making Grenache into a fine wine, while moving seamlessly into a more refined, contemporary style.

2005 Vintage Tasting notes

005 proved to be a classic vintage with steady winter and spring rains providing good soil moisture levels. An extended ripening period with little rain enabled fruit was able to reach maturity without the risk of disease. Grenache, being the last variety picked, benefited from the Indian summer, giving deep colours and extremely rich flavours.

The 2005 Grenache displays aromas of dark cherry, stewed plum and spice. The palate is full with cherry chocolate and cassis flavours, overlain with warmth and peppery spices.

Richer, deeper, and fuller-bodied with more nuances, the 2005 Grenache exhibits a flowery, black raspberry and sweet kirsch-scented bouquet. A bigger better effort than its older sibling, it should drink well for 5-7 years. Rating: 91 Points
