Large bottle turkey flat grenache bottle

Turkey Flat has more than 25 years experience in making Grenache. This older variety for South Australia has a natural home in the Barossa, although respect for the variety as a maker of fine wine has only recently been achieved. It has been an important part of the Turkey Flat range since 1992.

Mark Bulman has made Grenache his signature varietal after taking over full control of winemaking at Turkey Flat in 2010. Under his direction this remains respectful to our past tradition of making Grenache into a fine wine, while moving seamlessly into a more refined, contemporary style.

1997 Vintage Tasting notes

This wine is made from 80 year old Grenache vines grown on the Turkey Flat Vineyard. These old vines produce fantastically concentrated fruit which translates into a style of Grenache for which Turkey Flat has become famous.

The 1997 vintage has produced a bigger style of Grenache than the last two vintages, with a firm structured finish. It has all of those distinctive and wonderful fruit characters of previous Turkey Flat Grenache Noir’s, which make this wine approachable when young, while still yet having the potential for cellaring.

1997 Grenache - a pretty wine

WINE SPECTATOR – March 31, 1999

Smooth and generous, a pretty wine, with solid black cherry and raspberry flavours, hinting at smoke on the slightly chewy finish. Best from 2000 through 2004. 2,000 cases made. Rating: 86 Points
