A big-boned dry white, with apricot, honeysuckle and straw on offer; the palate is rich, but exhibits a liveliness and texture that offers harmony on the finish.

SYDNEY MORNING HERALD - Huon Hooke, 17 February 2009
Turkey Flat has developed this Rhone blend into an excellent dry white. It opens with an aroma of fresh herbs, airing to display honey, nuts and stone fruits. A soft, rounded, tasty Barossa Valley wine of subtle barrel influence. Food Roast chicken.
Rating: 93/100.

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE - Issue 186, December 2009
The Butchers Block White is a blend of 58% Marsanne, 28% Viognier, and 14% Roussanne which was partially barrel-fermented and received extended lees contact. Light gold-coloured, it offers up an alluring bouquet of minerals, honey, baking spices, stone fruits, and melon. On the palate it displays serious Rhone character along with excellent concentration, intensity, and balance. This complex effort can be enjoyed over the next 3 years.

THE ADVERTISER TOP 100 WINES - November 2008
Wrapped in oak, this Rhoneish blend of two varieties has deep colour and rich, voluptuous apricots, almonds and hazelnuts on the nose. Unctuous in the mouth with a fuller body weight and restrained acidity, it's soft and slightly dy in the finish yet with a sense of complexity. Sip Slowly. Rating: 91 Points

AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION 2009 James Halliday
Barrel ferment and maturation in French oak plus the blend give Rhone overtones, minerally notes giving the wine lightness. Rating: 91 Points

THE ADVERTISER 24/9/2008 Tony Love
Sourced from the Stonewell sub-region, the pretty floral aromatics also have a faint mint-leaf edge, very attractive in the process especially when what follows is a light honey drizzle over apple and peach fruit salad. Best of all, it's upright with good acidity and brightness - very spritely, very sexy, too. 93 Points.

SUNDAY AGE 17/8/2008
This 2007 Barossa blend is a great food wine. It is delicately perfumed with complex fruit and floral notes. There's a hit of luscious fruit and a dry finish. Try it with Vietnamese.

AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION 2008 James Halliday
Medium to Medium-full bodied complex array of honey/honeysuckle/nutty/tropical/apricot aromas and flavours; fermentation and aging in old French oak barrels imparts considerable texture, but much less - if any- discernible flavour. 94 points!

ROBERT PARKER’S WINE ADVOCATE – Issue 181, February 2009
The 2007 Butchers Block White, a blend of 82% Marsanne and 18% Viognier, is light gold coloured with a nose of candle wax, melon, and peach. On the palate it is smooth textured, ripe, and vibrant with plenty of forward fruit. Drink it over the next two years. Rating: 88 Points.

ROBERT PARKER’S WINE ADVOCATE – Issue 173, October 2007
The 2006 Butchers Block White is composed of 80% Marsanne and 20% Viognier. Eighty percent of this wine was barrel-fermented in French oak, 20% new; 50% was lees stirred, and 15% went through partial malolactic fermentation. Honeysuckle, citrus, waxy notes, and hints of pit fruits compose a very fragrant perfume leading to a Southern Rhone-styled wine with racy flavours, excellent acidity and concentration, and a lengthy finish. Drink this style wine through 2015. Rating: 90 Points

Excellent texture and structure; a backbone of minerally acidity carries the alcohol with ease, and also the pear, apricot and green apple flavours. Has matured beautifully since tasted in Feb '06, still with years in front of it.

HERALD SUN - QUAFFING with Paddy Kendler July 24th, 2007
Barossa dry whites may lack the elegance and poise of those made in cooler climates, but they rarely lack depth of flavour and a certain presence. Such is the case here, a wine of individual character in which the marsanne provides the main drive and structure while the viognier contributes to the texture. Honey, hay and stoned fruit characters are well balanced by clean acidity. In a word, pleasurable.
4.5 out of 5

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE issue 167 - December 2006
A good combination since the Viognier's tendency to produce flabby wines is balanced by the Marsannes acidity and structure. Fresh, lovely, honeysuckle and citrus notes emerge from this elegant, medium-bodied, stylish white.

HERALD SUN -QUAFFING with Paddy Kendler, June 2006
As could be expected from the relatively warm Barossa climate, this blend is neither elegant nor precious and there are no hidden secrets to be revealed in time. Enjoy now for full grapey flavours, gentle acidity and a certain novelty of style.

THE WEEKEND AUSTRALIAN -TASTE with Max Allen, June 2006
The new Butchers Block White is also delicious, honeyed with a walt of eucalypt oil.

Sign up to see this Rhone white Blend showing a little oilskin aged character, though the aromatic side of lemon also present. There is substantial weight in the palate and deft work apparent in getting the acid-tannin balance right. Clever.

The 2004 Butchers Block White is a blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Viognier. A light gold colour is accompanied by lovely aromas of buttered citrus, white currants, earth, and tropical fruit. It, too, should drink well for 1-2 years.
Rating: 89 Points.
